The show was held in Fitzwilliam Place - a great venue for such a fanastic event. Right in the heart of Dublin's Georgian quarter. The houses are always so beautiful - I should know, I used to live just around the corner from the place! At the moment the weather is slightly mental and its hard to know what to pack incase of rain or sunshine. I had both my way there and I turned up to the event looking like I had been dragged through a bush backwards - I hate Irish weather!!!
But it was nothing to what was to come. Halfway through the event - the heavens opened and it poured. I was not at all prepared in my little pumps with my fabric laptop bag! It was the sort of rain that hurts and you can't see in front of you. Sadly I had a trek back into town to get my bus home and by the time I was safely tucked up with my book - I had been soaked through and all four of my bags were also soaking including the laptop.
Still nothing cheers you up better then fashion does it not?
There were so many beautiful trends on display here and such amazing clothes. What I love about Brown Thomas (both the original and 2!) is that they really understand what their customers want. I marvelled at the range on offer - for the rockers amongst us there were leather fringed boots, leather jackets and silver skinny jeans, for the mods - there were beautifully tailored suits from the Kooples and stunning mini skirts. If you are more of a girly girl then there were body con dresses and floaty pastel numbers, office girl? - then check out the suits, cropped jackets and suitable day dresses.... It was impossible to find an occasion or a style they hadn't catered for.
Side note - the above dress is Maje. It also comes in lemon yellow and its GORGEOUS on. The photo doesn't do it justice. It's divine. Maje are having a wonderful season this year and have been dropping hit after hit. Just check out the blue coat below. I have fallen in love with it.
This was another stand out piece for me - the green suit from the Kooples. I think if the mod generation of the 60s were around today then the Kooples would be their go to brand. I know they are a little expensive but seriously, the tailoring is just beautiful. I was blown away by it. Not to mention that both pieces would work as individual pieces too.
I had a little bit of an excited (inner) scream when I saw Karl by Karl Lagerfeld on the list. I dream of owning one of his collars!!! This was his second collection and it showed influences of military, rock and glamor in a way that only Karl can manage...
There were also strong pieces from the BT2 exclusive brands such as COS, Maje and MSGM.
Of course, the best part of BT2 is the denim bar. If you haven't paid a visit then you need to. I got hooked on Dr Denims in Galway. The denim bar there is incredible and the staff really know their stuff. I fell in love with the fit and style of skinny Dr Denims. I am working my way up to a pair of patterned JBrands.
I love this dress so much. It's from Raoul. This is the second time I have seriously fallen for one of their dresses. I fell in love with a beautiful white dress with a cape and a gold leather panel before. I was so in love with it that I considered it the perfect design for a graduation/wedding dress. This dress however has the perfect level of vintage influence to it and its just gorgeous.
So what are the BT2 must have items for next season?
THE DRESS - Go print, go unusual or go statement. Consider some of the prints from MSGM, Raoul and Victoria By Victoria Beckham
THE JEAN - Go skinny but change the color. Skinny jeans looks best for this season in plums and rich rusty tones. Try Dr Denim (just because they are an amazing fit) or try Victoria Beckham's jeans. sigh....
THE JACKET - It's all about making a statement with your outer wear! There are a lot of cropped numbers around from leather to tweed-ish boxy jackets (see above picture) or go all out with a car coat in a stunning bright shade (try DKNY or DVF) or why not try Ted Baker for a classic trench?
THE BAG - It's all about the small bag or the clutch
THE SHOE - I am feeling unusual footwear. Think the balls on the toes of the Vivienne Westwood jelly shoes, the fringes on the Isabel Marant booties and the brothel creepers that have been doing the rounds lately. Have fun with your footwear.
So what were people wearing?
- The statement necklace seems to reign supreme at these events. Simply because it's such a great and easy way to dress up an office outfit. Most of us come from work or have to go straight back at these events so its nice to have something we can add immediately to give a bit of glamour. Booties and ankle boots also made an appearance - Jeffery Campbell has really set a standard for AW12 styles and shoe trends. I also noted a few sequins doing the rounds as well.
So what were people eating or drinking?
- We started with granola, yogurt and fruit shots before having mini pastries. Teas, Coffees and Orange juice in front of a roaring fire in August really got us into the AW spirit!
