Rihanna's "S&M (Remix) feat. Britney Spears"

Yesterday the music world was given a surprise when a remix of Rihanna’s current top ten hit “S&M” made its way onto the web featuring none other than the Femme Fatale herself, Britney Spears. Today fans were able to actually purchase the song when it showed up on iTunes and has already reached the runner up position on the top 100 chart. The track shocked many because there was never any evidence that the two divas were even thinking about teaming up. The new version of the song has Rihanna doing the same thing, but Spears adds her own flavor and different lyrics to go along with the sexual and seductive song.
For me, the song does not begin well, with an annoying, altered voice repeating the same thing over and over for a couple of seconds. When Rihanna’s powerful voice comes up it is like you are listening to the exact same song that is currently on the radio airwaves now. It is not until the second verse where the pop princess gives some new life into the song. The track finishes the same, but the girls take turns and transform the song into a duet of some sort. Overall, I feel like you are getting the song that shows up on Rihanna’s album “Loud”, but some over the top, almost explicit lyrics get thrown in by Spears to maybe make the song worth purchasing a second time. The problem that I have with this new version is the fact that Spears does not sound like she is really trying. She is just going through the motions and sounds very tired and nasally. When her voice gets put head to head with the R&B singer, it is clear who has the stronger voice. Rihanna made the song a strong, sex anthem, and Britney’s voice just sounds out of place and awkward. It was an interesting and fun idea though, just did not meet the potential it could have or critic’s expectations.
The track is evidence that artists do enjoy having fun and I like seeing big names teaming up with each other for new material, I just wish the two would have worked on an entirely new song instead of just a remix where nothing new was really experimented with. When I saw this Rihanna and Britney collaboration, it automatically took me back to Lady Gaga and Beyonce’s “Telephone”, but it is clear that Gaga and Honey B take the crown for best collabo. The song is fun and I do applaud the effort, but I do not think the song is worth purchasing, it deserves one listen and that is about it, stick with the original. The track gets an 80% for effort and because “S&M” is a damn good song. Let us hope that these two divas work on new material in the future.

Do you agree with my review of "S&M (Remix)"?
